Appointments & Advisory.
Built Around Your School.

Whether you need your next exceptional hire or an independent perspective on how your school is structured and led, we bring the same depth of sector knowledge to both.

The Hidden Cost of Unfiltered Recruitment

Most agencies advertise, collect applications and forward everything. What arrives in your inbox is unfiltered, often irrelevant, and demands hours of senior leadership time to process. That is not a service. It is a transfer of administrative burden, dressed up as one.

The Unfiltered Inbox

Dozens, sometimes well over a hundred, CVs arriving with no prior sifting, requiring individual review from already stretched senior staff.

Diverted Leadership Attention

Every hour a Deputy or Head spends reviewing unsuitable CVs is an hour not spent on the school. Over a single recruitment cycle, that adds up considerably.

The Short Tenure Problem

When the brief hasn't been truly understood and the candidate hasn't been genuinely assessed, poor fit follows. Short tenures, team disruption, repeat appointments: the real cost is rarely just the fee.

Which Level of Partnership Suits You?

All three tiers share the same non-negotiable foundation: every applicant is personally spoken to by our team before their CV is considered for submission to you.

Tier I

Sifted Search

Our first tier, and a genuinely different proposition. Suitable for most teaching and middle-leadership appointments, delivered with the care and thoroughness you should expect as standard.

  • Role briefing & consultation
  • Targeted advertising across relevant channels
  • Personal phone screening of every applicant
  • CV review against your brief
  • Curated shortlist, typically 4-8 candidates
  • Candidate summaries with each CV
  • Ongoing availability for queries

  • Market mapping & landscape briefing
  • Governor / trustee briefing support

Commitments We Make to Every School

Trust is not claimed. It is earned through consistency, honesty and the quality of every introduction. These are the commitments that govern the way we work, for every school, on every assignment.

Personal screening, always Every applicant is personally spoken to before their CV is submitted. There are no exceptions to this, regardless of volume, timeline or tier.
Complete discretion Sensitive and confidential appointments handled with absolute professionalism.
Honest counsel We will tell you if a brief needs rethinking, if the salary isn't competitive, or if the market isn't where you expect it to be. Comfortable agreement is not a service.
Placement guarantee If a placed candidate leaves within an agreed period, we will re-recruit at no additional fee. We stand behind every introduction we make.
"
If a CV reaches your desk from us, it is because we have spoken to that person, understood what they offer, and made a considered judgement that they are worth your time. That is a standard we apply without exception.
The Education Bureau

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you turn around a shortlist?
Timescales vary by role and seniority. For most teaching and middle-leadership appointments, we aim to present an initial shortlist within ten to fourteen working days of briefing. For leadership searches, we agree a clear project timeline at the outset. If your need is urgent, we will always be honest about what is genuinely achievable.
Do you work with state schools and academies as well as independent schools?
Our primary focus and deepest expertise is within the independent sector, and we work extensively with nurseries, prep schools, senior independents, sixth-form colleges and IB schools. We do work with MATs and some academy settings where there is a good fit with our specialism and approach.
What makes The Education Bureau different from other education recruiters?
The most fundamental difference is what we do before a CV reaches you. Many agencies advertise and forward, full stop. At The Education Bureau, every applicant is personally spoken to by a member of our team before their CV is considered for submission. We also work with a deliberately limited number of clients at any one time, so we can maintain the quality and attention that boutique recruitment demands.
How are fees structured?
For Tiers I and II, our fee is a percentage of the appointed candidate's first-year salary, agreed at the outset. For Tier III Executive and Leadership Search, we work on a fully retained basis. We are always transparent about costs before any engagement begins. Please do get in touch for a straightforward conversation.
Can you handle confidential searches, such as replacing a current post-holder?
Absolutely, and we do this regularly. Sensitive appointments, including those at Headteacher and Principal level, are handled with complete discretion. We will discuss your confidentiality requirements at briefing and structure the entire search process accordingly.

Beyond Recruitment.
A Deeper Partnership.

Our advisory work grows naturally from the relationships we build through recruitment. When a school trusts us enough to ask the harder questions, about structure, culture, leadership and effectiveness, we are ready to help.

We bring the same independence and sector depth to our advisory engagements that we bring to every search. We are not management consultants parachuted into education. We are education specialists who understand your environment from the inside.

Advisory engagements are available to existing recruitment clients and independently. All fees are agreed transparently at the outset of each engagement.
